“A woman’s past need not predict her future. She can dance to new music if she chooses. Her own music. To hear the tune, she must only stop talking. To herself, I mean. We’re always trying to persuade ourselves of things.”
“Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate is a fictional novel based on the horrific nonfiction story of Georgia Tann and the Tennessee Children’s home. Wingate manages to take a heartbreaking situation and turn it into an inspiring tale of hope, resilience and family. I couldn’t put the book down and though parts of it are tragic and hard to read, it was beautifully written and flowed effortlessly. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but if you are looking for a book to add to your reading list, this is definitely it.
I’ve read almost 70 books this year and this by far is my favorite. It’s also going to go on my list of all time favorites.
